Lindy Hop falls under the general category of “swing dance.”  Lindy Hop has a very unique and wonderful culture based on inclusiveness, creativity, diversity, social dancing, competition, and freedom of expression. It evolved during the swing era in the 20’s - 30’s. Lindy Hop is best suited to swing music, as the basic step has a swung rhythm that compliments the feel of the music. The steps are mainly derived from jazz, tap, breakaway, and Charleston with African American roots.

Since it’s revival in the 80’s and 90’s, Lindy Hop has regained popularity throughout the world. There is a great diversity of Lindy Hop scenes, each with their own unique styles and flavour. Some big Lindy Hop scenes near Kamloops exist in Vancouver, Victoria, Edmonton, Calgary, and Seattle. Many new, small Lindy Hop/swing dance scenes like ours have emerged across Canada in Lethbridge, Red Deer, Grande Prairie, Saskatoon, and many small cities in the prairies.
