Swinging Into Spring 2019.png

Join us March 30th and 31st for 2 amazing 1-day Workshops!

We’re pleased to announce the TRUSU Swing Dance Club, with generous support from the TRU Student Union, is presenting the 3rd annual Swingin' into Spring workshop! This event is open to both students and the wider TRU and Kamloops community.

2 Amazing 1-Day Workshops

Pick your track - each day is focused for a single skill level so you can hop with enthusiasm and energy - and still have some moves left for our live band social dance on Saturday night!

Saturday, March 30th

Aimed at new or fairly new dancers, you'll learn or improve on the basics of Lindy Hop steps and patterns, work on musicality and expression, and get a good dose of fun and silliness, too! (Hosted at Desert Gardens Community Centre)

Sunday, March 31st

Aimed at more experienced Lindy Hop dancers, you'll spend some time on the fundamentals and move into variations and styling, musicality and expression, and maybe some performance as well! (Hosted at Akimbo Dance Studios)

Both tracks will be focused on partner dancing Lindy Hop, but may include solo elements.

Wondering which day to sign up for? Check out the video below for the skill-level differences between the Saturday and the Sunday workshops.

Social Dance with Benny & the Good Men

Join us Saturday evening for a social dance featuring local Vancouver band Benny & the Good Men. Keeping the musical traditions of the roaring twenties,-and earlier-alive, Benny & the Good Men is inspired by the hot jazz that dominated the radios, dancehalls and clubs of New York, Chicago, and New Orleans in the 1930's. Specializing in obscure tunes seldom played by today's bands, Benny & the Good Men is a throwback to the dance bands of the interwar years, and is inspired by the music of the King of Swing, Benny Goodman. Check out their musical stylings here!

Participants of both tracks are encouraged to attend the dance, but workshop attendance is not a requirement! All are welcome to join us for a great time. Try out your skills, experience amazing music, meet new friends, and have fun. (Hosted at Desert Gardens Community Centre)

Sunday Wrap-Up

Regardless of which track you join, wrap up your weekend at our traditional fun potluck dinner on Sunday evening.
